Mask

My inspiration for this mask came from cattle skulls.
I wanted a more broken down/decayed look which is why I didn't make the horns to their full length.

Materials used: wire, tracing paper and gel medium

Memento

The memory I used was from my trek to Machu Picchu.

The triangular shape represents the tents I was sleeping in for 3 nights and the balsa wood represents the trees I was constantly surrounded by. The moss represents the different trees and vegetation I was surrounded by as well as living and sleeping in nature for three and a half days, which is why I put the moss inside of the triangle.

Materials used: balsa wood, wood glue and moss

Paper Hybrid

This paper hybrid is made from a pine cone, a stick I cut in half and the top of a beer bottle.

Materials used: paper, water, gesso and pastels

Traveling Structure

My architectural inspiration for this project came from primitive, classical and modern architecture.

The stairs are just made from paper covered in masking tape.

The rocks are made from balsa wood and black ink. I diluted with water so it would turn out more grayish, then I just glued them to the foam board with wood glue.

The fence is made from BBQ skewers I cut in half.

I cut my balsa wood in panels angled at 45 degrees each so that panels would be visible rather than just making a regular box.

Materials used: balsa wood, foam board, wood glue, yarn, masking tape, skewers, tracing paper, black ink, push pins, paper

Water Fountain

For the vents I had covered both pieces of cardboard completely and then cut the shape of vents in with the pencil marks I made on the back of the cardboard. That way the vents look cleaner than just taping around them.

The final result includes the hot water fountain and the regular drinking water fountain.

Materials used: Cardboard and duct tape

memento homework

The body is the primary mode of perceiving scale.

Capacity of objects to serve as traces of authentic experience.

The souvenir reduces the public, the monumental and the 3D into the miniature which can be enveloped by the body.

Nostalgia cannot be sustained without loss.

To have a souvenir of the exotic is to possess both a specimen and a trophy.
